The Glasgow Distillery has revealed three new peated whiskies joining its Small Batch Series. The series comprises whiskies finished with different cask types, to showcase different elements of the distillery's spirit style.
The new releases are Glasgow 1770 Islay Cask Finish, Glasgow 1770 Madeira Cask Finish, and Glasgow 1770 Marsala Wine Cask Matured.
The Islay Cask Finish was matured in new American oak before a finishing period in refill bourbon hogshead that had previously held Islay single malt. The Madeira Cask finish also had an initial maturation in new American oak before a finish in a Madeira wine cask. The Marsala Cask Matured spent its full maturation of seven years in Marsala wine casks.
Mike Hayward, co-founder, commented: "This trio of new peated additions to our Small Batch Series offer the perfect selection of warming drams for the colder months."
Commenting on the flavours of the whiskies, Hayward said: "Glasgow 1770 Islay Cask Finish offers a unique interplay between mainland peat’s sweet smoke and Islay’s maritime influence, resulting in an intriguing smoky release with notes of golden syrup and flamed orange peel."
The Madeira Cask Finish has "a delightful character of sweetness and complexity with notes of crystallised ginger and dark plum," said Hayward, while the Marsala Wine Cask Matured is "bold and uncompromising with notes of sticky toffee, dark fruit, and smoky bacon."
Earlier in 2024 the distillery announced its first age-statement whiskies in the Small Batch Series.
Glasgow 1770 Islay Cask Finish is bottled at 57.3% ABV and limited to 303 bottles. The most limited release, Glasgow 1770 Madeira Cask Finish is bottled at 58% ABV with only 298 bottles available. The Glasgow 1770 Marsala Cask Finish is bottled at 60.2% ABV and 860 bottles are available.
All three releases are available via the Glasgow Distillery and specialist UK retailers at RRP £59.
