Glengoyne is launching a series of limited-edition single malts inspired by the movements of the sun.
The Solstice Series is inspired by a collection of images taken from 12 pinhole cameras installed around the distillery site. The solography project has tracked the path of the sun over Glengoyne over the past 12 months and captured it through sun, snow, and ice.
The first release, Glengoyne Summer Solstice, was released to coincide with the summer solstice on 21 June, and the second, Glengoyne Winter Solstice, will be released in December.
Summer Solstice has been bottled from a single bourbon barrel, filled in 2008, that was selected by distillery manager Robbie Hughes. Hughes felt the cask reflected “the light and fruity flavours that encapsulate a Scottish summer”. Tasting notes from the distillery say the whisky has notes of raspberry, apricot, coconut, lime, vanilla, toffee, and biscuit.
Hughes said: “Everything we do at Glengoyne, we do with patience, dedication and the understanding that perfection takes time. We’ve a wonderful community of whisky lovers who appreciate and understand Glengoyne’s unhurried philosophy, so sharing this special release exclusively with our Glengoyne Family members is our way of thanking them.”
Glengoyne Summer Solstice is bottled at 59% ABV, with just 168 bottles available exclusively to members of the Glengoyne Family. It is available at glengoyne.com with a recommended price of £260.
