Glenmorangie has released the latest whisky in its imaginative ‘A Tale Of...’ series. A Tale of Ice Cream is inspired by the flavours of an ice-cream parlour.
In order to capture the ice cream flavours, director of whisky creation Dr Bill Lumsden and master blender Gillian MacDonald selected high-vanillin new oak casks, the first of this kind used by Glenmorangie. The casks were toasted to enhance the vanilla qualities and notes of peaches, vanilla, and coconut. The whisky from these casks was blended with single malt aged in bourbon casks for the final result.
Lumsden said: “Ice cream is an irresistible indulgence and inspired by the flavours you might find on an ice-cream parlour menu, we imagined creating a whisky of melting decadence and lavish swirls of flavour. By ageing Glenmorangie in bourbon and high-vanillin casks we have deliciously magnified our whisky’s sweetest, creamiest side.”
Lumsden continued: “With notes of peach melba, lemon sorbet, coconut flakes and rich vanilla, sipping Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream is like sinking your spoon into a carousel of flavour. We invite whisky lovers old and new to indulge their sweet tooth and enjoy this ultimate treat!”
To complement the release, Glenmorangie has created a menu of cocktails to explore the whisky’s flavours. The distillery has also collaborated with Scottish knitwear designer Donna Wilson to create a limited number of A Tale of Ice Cream-themed sweaters, to be available for purchase at the Glenmorangie distillery visitor centre.
Glenmorangie’s limited-edition A Tale Of… series began in 2020 with another dessert: A Tale of Cake. The series has also featured A Tale of Winter, A Tale of the Forest, and A Tale of Tokyo.
Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream (46% ABV) is available via glenmorangie.com and select retailers at RRP £76.
