Swedish distiller High Coast Whisky has announced the launch of a second whisky in its Silent Mills series.

Designed to complement the sensations of autumn, Silent Mills 02 - Sandö is a peated whisky which aims to expand on the themes of authenticity and origin set out in the collection's first release.

Of the new release, High Coast Whisky said: "The High Coast, and its nature and history, is the backbone of our brand and the source of inspiration for our whisky. With Silent Mills, our historical origins in the northern forestry industry come into focus."

Following in the footsteps of Silent Mills 01, with which new American oak barrels were using in the maturation alongside ex-Bourbon barrels, Silent Mills 02 contains a proportion of whisky (around 20 per cent) aged in ex-sherry hogsheads. Like the first release, and later editions to come, the whisky has been bottled at 51% ABV.

A total of 10,318 bottles of Silent Mill 02 - Sandö will be available, with 2,500 initially on sale with Systembolaget stores.

Inspired by the now-dormant saw mills lining the Ångermanälven river, the Silent Mills series is linked to High Coast's Origins series release, Timmer, which highlights the forestry work and log driving along the river.
