The Dalmore took to the bitter cold of Iceland to launch the latest addition to its portfolio, the 45 Years Old Aurora - and to see the whisky's namesake in the sky.

Hotel Ranga in Hella, near the capital Reyjavik, is a luxury log-cabin-style hotel with views reminiscent of a John Ford western and a ten-foot polar bear looming over the foyer, and is reported to be one of the best locations in the area to see the Northern Lights.

Matured in American White Oak, then transferred into a 30-year-old Gonzalez Byass 'Matusalem' Olorosso sherry cask for the its final 18 months. It is an eruption of flavours with blood oranges crushed apples and pears flooding out of the glass, and notes of cinnamon, Bulgarian roses, jasmine and cocoa powder.

Limited to 200 bottles, priced at £3,000 each, it features blown glass with a solid silver stag logo and stylish Aurora emblem, exclusively designed by Charlie Stott of Scottish Silver.
