Currently celebrating its 180th anniversary year, The Dalmore has announced its next high-end bottling: The Dalmore 51 Years Old.
This latest luxury release made its debut at an intimate dinner held at London's illustrious Hotel Café Royal, which was attended by the Alness distillery's selected private clients, partners and press.
Following on from the release of The Dalmore 60 Years Old 180th Anniversary Edition in November 2019, which saw the last remaining casks of 'Mackenzie era'* liquid being bottled, The Dalmore 51 Years Old continues to highlight the distillery's commitment to utilising rare, aged fortified wine casks for long finishing periods and builds on the brand's long-standing tradition of utilising exclusive Matusalem sherry casks, sourced from Jerez winemaker Gonzalez Byass, for maturation of its whiskies.
Housed in a black sycamore-wood box that is lined with quilted leather, The Dalmore 51 Years Old comes bottled in a crystal decanter with a crystal stopper and the brand's iconic 12-point ‘Royal’ stag crafted in Sterling silver. The 51-year-old whisky was matured initially in refill American white oak ex Bourbon barrels, before being finished in a combination of 1938 Vintage Colheita Port pipes, first-fill Bourbon barrels; and The Dalmore's signature Matusalem sherry casks from Gonzalez Byass.
Richard Paterson, master distiller at The Dalmore, said: “The Dalmore 51 Year Old is a noble single malt of rare profundity and it has been my pleasure to closely follow its maturation over five decades. I am always looking towards the future and I carefully consider how each distillation will evolve, moving our spirits to new wood to transform their conclusion. The Dalmore 51 Year Old is a fine example of this.”
Bottled at 40% ABV, precisely 51 decanters of the Dalmore 51 Years Old have been released for sale via selected retailers at a recommended price of £55,000.
*The Mackenzie era refers to the period stretching from when The Dalmore was truly established as a going concern by the Mackenzie brothers in 1867 to the mid-20th century, when the distillery ceased to be family owned and merged with parent company Whyte & Mackay.
