The Keepers of the Quaich USA has offered up a celebration of Scotch whisky at a fundraising gala.
The gala was held in support of the Entrepreneurial Scotland Foundation, which creates scholarship opportunities in the US for Scottish students. It was hosted at the official residence of British ambassador Dame Karen Pierce, with members of the Keepers of the Quaich USA society, the Scottish government, and the US Congress in attendance.
Highlighting Scotch whiskies, the event featured eight individual company sampling tables as well as a full bar serving cocktails.
Keepers of the Quaich USA co-chairman Frank Coleman said: “American consumers continue to savour super-premium blends and single malts, with over 9 million cases sold last year, worth over US$2.5 billion to distillers, and much more to distributors and retailers across the country.”
Thanking guests for sharing in a celebration of Scotch whisky, Dame Karen said, “These rarities and new expressions demonstrate the range and vibrancy of the category and its long heritage. From the Highlands to Speyside, from Orkney to Islay, the diversity of Scotland’s whiskies is treasured around the globe.”
Chris Thomson, head of the Scottish government in the US, added: “Scotland is rightly proud of our whisky, and also of our incredible higher education sector — both contribute both to stronger communities and economies at home, and to our transatlantic relationship with the US.”
