Kilchoman has announced the launch of the 13th edition of its 100% Islay single farm single malt whisky.
The 100% Islay 13th Edition was distilled from barley grown on the farm in which the distillery sits from 2012–2014. The spirit was matured for a minimum of eight years in ex-bourbon barrels, 44 of which were selected for this year's release.
Anthony Wills, Kilchoman founder, said: “The 13th Edition is the first release since 2019 where I have opted for solely bourbon barrels. The 44 bourbon barrels that I selected are predominantly fresh casks – this gives the whisky lovely layers of buttery vanilla and caramel flavours which pair beautifully with the citrus sweetness of our spirit.”
The barley used for Kilchoman's 100% Islay Editions is grown on an area of about 200 acres on the farm, which is located on the north-west coast of Islay. It is floor malted on-site by the distillery team and smoked with Islay peat.
The Kilchoman 100% Islay 13th Edition has a recommended price of £85.50 in the UK. The whisky will be available from 13 September in the UK and Europe, with more markets to follow.
