Kilchoman has announced its latest expression, the Kilchoman Sauternes Cask Matured 2024.
The release is the brand’s third iteration of a Sauternes-cask whisky; the first, released in 2016, spent its whole five-year maturation exclusively in Sauternes casks, while the second, from 2018, had a five-month Sauternes cask finish.
The 2024 Sauternes release used 22 per cent fresh and 78 per cent refill Sauternes casks. Most of the refill casks had been used to finish the 2018 release, giving them a less intense influence on the final whisky.
Anthony Wills, Kilchoman founder, said: “After a six-year absence, the Sauternes Cask Matured Kilchoman is back! The previous edition was a Sauternes finish, now it’s time for a return to the full power that complete maturation in these wine casks brings.
“Waves of sweet fruits and butterscotch balanced with our Islay peat smoke, a delicious dram.”
Further tasting notes by Kilchoman indicate barbecued pineapple, candied ginger, and buttery notes can be expected in the expression.
Sauternes Cask Matured 2024 (50% ABV) will be available from Kilchoman stockists worldwide from this week.
