Swedish distillery Mackmyra, which filed for bankruptcy in August 2024, has been purchased by Lennart Hero and No 1 Capital AB. The purchasing companies stated that the acquisition would “secure the future” of the brand.

Lennart Hero was the main owner of Mackmyra at the time of the brand’s bankruptcy. No. 1 Capital AB is an investment firm and new owner.

In a statement on Mackmyra’s website, Lennart Hero and No 1 Capital AB said that they would aim to retain as many of Mackmyra’s employees as possible to, and work with them to continue to develop the brand. Relationships will also be maintained with Mackmyra’s barrel owners.

The owners plan to develop the Mackmyra brand through capital and strategy to “make Mackmyra an even more prominent player on the global stage”.

Mackmyra was founded in 1999 as Sweden's first whisky distillery. It marks its 25th anniversary this year.

Whisky Magazine has approached Lennart Hero for comment.
