Meikle Tòir, the GlenAllachie Distillery's peated single malt range, has released its first single-cask bottlings. The 2018 Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead will be exclusively available at the distillery, while the 2019 Oloroso Sherry Hogshead is an online exclusive.

Selected by master distiller Billy Walker, both whiskies balance peated spirit with sherry-cask maturation, made using mainland peat sourced from St Fergus, which the distillery says gives a sweeter, oakier smoke than Islay peat.

The 2018 Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead has been matured in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry cask for seven years, which the brand says brings notes of fig jam, hazelnuts, and honeyed spice.

The 2019 Oloroso Sherry Hogshead was aged in an oloroso sherry cask for six years. Tasting notes from the GlenAllachie highlight the balance of sweetness and spice, with tobacco, figs, and orange.

Billy Walker, master distiller at the GlenAllachie Distillery, said: “When selecting our first Meikle Tòir single casks, I was looking for whiskies that truly captured the bold, smoky character that defines the range, with added depth and complexity from exceptional sherry cask maturation.

“These two casks stood out to me straight away. Both are a real reflection of the signature peated style we’ve been evolving at the distillery: full of robust sherry character, yet still true to sweet and smoky mainland spirit of Meikle Tòir.”

Meikle Tòir 2018 Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead (59.9% ABV, RRP £75.99) and 2019 Oloroso Hogshead (60.5% ABV, RRP £75.99) are available exclusively via the distillery and the GlenAllachie website respectively.
