Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers has revealed the latest edition of its Old Perth blended malt Scotch whisky. New release Old Perth Amontillado Sherry Cask Matured platforms the "nuanced complexity" of its namesake sherry casks.
The whisky, which is blended from Speyside single malts, was initially matured in American and European oak sherry casks, with some also drawn from Old Perth's solera system. The blend was then moved to first-fill amontillado sherry casks for nearly three years of finishing.
Graeme Mackeddie, master blender at Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, said: “Amontillado casks offer something rare and compelling — structure, restraint, and this incredible nutty elegance. We wanted to build a whisky that captures that nuance and takes Old Perth in a slightly unexpected, but still unmistakably sherried, direction.”
Old Perth says the new whisky has notes of hazelnut, almond, dried apricot, and amaretti. The brand is known for its sherry-forward approach to whisky maturation; previous releases have included Old Perth Solera, Double Sherry Wood, and 12 Years Old — the latter from its sherry-matured, age-stated collection.
Old Perth Amontillado Sherry Cask Matured (52.8% ABV, RRP £58) is available now via selected retailers.
