Old Putleney has launched its first distillery-exclusive whisky, paying homage to its coastal home in the Scottish Highlands.
The Old Pulteney Distillery Exclusive comprises spirit that has seen dual maturation, first in American oak casks and then in French oak, which the distillery says has enhanced its spirit's sweet notes, subtle spice, and "sea-salt undertones". The casks for the limited edition were selected by distillery manager Malcolm Waring.
The Distillery Exclusive is bottled without chill filtration at 53% ABV, slightly higher than the distillery's core range (which comprises 12-, 15-, and 18-year-old expressions bottled at 46% ABV).
Waring said: “I’m very proud to introduce the first Old Pulteney Distillery Exclusive to the world. Capturing the very essence of its maritime location in every dram, the expression has been created as a homage to our home on the Caithness Coast in Wick, using my favourite French and American oak casks to create a beautiful, well-rounded flavour."
The Old Pulteney Distillery Exclusive is available at Pulteney Distillery and via Old Pulteney's website, retailing at £85.
