Independent whisky bottler and retailer Robert Graham 1874 has launched a collection of Scotch whiskies in collaboration with artist Stephen Chambers.

The Court of Redonda collection is launching with six expressions from Speyside and Lowland distilleries: Dailuaine, Benriach, Craigellachie, GlenAllachie, Glen Garioch, and Glenrothes.

The collection is inspired by a series of artworks by Chambers, The Court of Redonda, which show imaginary inhabitants of the unoccupied island of Redonda in the Caribbean. The set of 101 pieces resulted from a conversation between Chambers and the late Spanish author Javier Marias, who was named King of Redonda in 1997 and assembled a 'court' of living artists who would share responsibility for governing the (still uninhabited) island.

Stephen Johnstone, owner and managing director of Robert Graham 1874, was introduced to Chambers' artwork many years ago. "I was struck with the vibrancy of his work, so when I started thinking about creating a new range for our independent bottling, I immediately thought, 'Wouldn't it be cool to combine the art of whisky with Stephen Chambers' artwork?'," he said. "I am delighted that Stephen Chambers was so enthusiastic to work with us and have enjoyed working with him to bring this new range of our whiskies to life."

Chambers explained that he felt there was a natural affinity between his collection and whisky: "The Court of Redonda was always intended to be a reverential celebration of ‘Everyman’; an elevated toast of those that fanfare frequently passes by. That is you, me, the doctor, the pharmacist, the florist, the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker... Whisky, as those of us that explore this realm know, is that most nuanced, multi-faceted, complicated, and sophisticatedly poetic of all the distilled juices. In this sense it is as diverse, complex and tender as... all of us."

The Robert Graham 1874 Court of Redonda whisky collection will be available exclusively from Robert Graham 1874 stores in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Cambridge and from robertgraham1874.com.

The initial six releases are: Dailuaine vintage 2009 cask; Benriach vintage 2010 cask; Craigellachie vintage 2011 cask; GlenAllachie vintage 2016 cask; Glen Garioch vintage 2011 cask; and Glenrothes vintage 2013 cask.
