Douglas Laing & Co has announced Scallywag Noir, a new bottling under its Scallywag blended malt whisky range that aims to capture a "darker" flavour profile.
Scallywag Noir is predominantly finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, which the brand says gives "velvety sweetness, dark fruits, and warming spices". The whisky has been bottles at its cask strength of 52.8% ABV, with no chill filtration or added colouring.
Scott Morrison, senior brand manager, commented: "Scallywag has always been about rich, sherried indulgence, and with Noir, we’ve taken this philosophy to the next level. Pedro Ximénez casks lend a deep, dark intensity to the spirit, creating a whisky that is as luxurious as it is complex. Noir is an invitation to venture into the shadows and discover the richer, darker side of Scallywag."
Within the dark fruit and spice flavour profile, Scallywag says the whisky has notes including dark chocolate, spiced oak, raisins, molasses, and black cherries.
Scallywag has used sherry casks extensively in its whiskies, including in its age-statement range, as well as other cask types such as port, in the brand finished its most recent Chocolate Edition release.
Scallywag Noir (52.8% ABV, RRP £65) is available now via selected retailers.
