Glengoyne Distillery has released the second edition in its Russell Family Cask Trilogy, which pays tribute to the three generations of the Russell family who have stewarded the distillery.
The new release is a 38-year-old single cask single malt whisky, matured in a first fill American oak sherry cask. The cask was selected by three members of the Russell family; Leonard Russell, managing director of Ian Macleod Distillers, selected several Glengoyne casks for his father, Peter, and son, Tom, to sample.
The 38-year-old whisky selected as the second Russell Family Cask has been chosen to showcase the sherry style Glengoyne has been known for. Earlier this year, distillery marked a "significant first" with the launch of Glengoyne White Oak, which moved away from sherry.
Tom Russell, head of international business development, said: “We are first and foremost a family business, and growing up for me was full of family dinners with conversation flowing, quick wit, and healthy debates, and the Russell Cask Trilogy brings this to life.
“The 38 Years Old is a remarkable dram, and we had no doubt that we needed to bottle it. The series is a special part of our past, but releasing it is raising a glass to our future and continuing to create exceptional whisky from one of the most environmentally friendly distilleries in Scotland.”
Tasting notes supplied by Glengoyne highlight "dark and luxurious" notes of toffee, blackberry tart, dark chocolate, strawberry, tiramisu, and ginger.
Limited to 241 bottles worldwide, Glengoyne Russell Family Cask 38 Years Old (56.8% ABV) will be available from 2 December 2024, priced at £4,100.
