Speyside's Tamdhu Distillery has launched its Dedication Collection, a series of whiskies that begins with new release Tamdhu 43 Years Old.
The Dedication Collection is due to comprise eight releases in total; four in domestic markets globally, and four in global travel retail. The 43 Years Old is a domestic-market release.
The Tamdhu 43 Years Old has been matured in three sherry oak casks, to showcase Tamdhu's signature use of oloroso sherry seasoned oak casks.
Distillery Manager, Sandy McIntyre, said: “At Tamdhu, our whisky is the ultimate artistic expression. So to launch this landmark collection we didn’t want to get side-tracked by gimmicks. Or look away from our whisky. Because it’s there, in the spirit itself, you see our craft, passion, and dedication.”
The distillery says the single malt has notes of toffee, dried coriander, citrus, blackcurrant, and spices, with a long sherry oak finish.

To mark the launch, Tamdhu has collaborated with photomicrographer Peter Woitschikowski to create up-close photography of the spirit itself. Woitschikowski's technique, using a microscope attached to a camera, reveals fine details within the whisky. The whisky was crystallised with natural extracts then photographed at 43-times magnification, once for every year of the liquid's maturation.
Woitschikowski said: “You never know how the images will come out. And every picture is different and unique. Tamdhu was a special case because the whisky is so pure. So perfect. We had to add extracts to create the crystallisation required. The results are quite beautiful, I believe.”
With each purchase of the Tamdhu 43 Years Old comes an invitation from McIntyre for a stay at the distillery, which is closed to the public, to taste Tamdhu's whiskies and explore its warehouses.
Tamdhu 43 Years Old is available via specialist retailers at RSP £13,500. Only 100 bottles have been released worldwide.
