The Teeling Whiskey Company is marking World Whisky Day (18 May) with the launch of one of the oldest Irish whiskeys to date, the 40 Years Old Single Malt.
Pitched as the pinnacle of the company's Vintage Reserve Collection of rare and highly aged single malts, the 40 Years Old was distilled in 1983 and aged exclusively in an ex-bourbon barrel. It has been bottled in a new-look decanter at cask strength of 42.2% ABV. Each of the 140 decanters available is decorated with gold infill, is individually numbered, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Jack Teeling, founder of the Teeling Whiskey Company, said: “We are extremely proud and lucky to be custodians of some of the oldest Irish single malt, which we have been mindfully releasing through our Vintage Reserve Collection. We are honoured to unveil the pinnacle of our this collection with our new 'modern classic' the Teeling 40 Year Old Single Malt, one of the oldest Irish single malts ever bottled and a rare piece of Irish whiskey history, 40 years in the making.”
To coincide with the release of the 40 Years Old, Teeling Whiskey has also announced the launch of its Phoenix Rising Scholarship Programme in partnership with Technological University Dublin, which the company says will support the next generation of innovators in the Irish brewing, distilling, and hospitality industries.
Eligible students will receive mentoring from Teeling Whiskey employees across various departments, and a proportion of the proceeds from sales of the Teeling 40 Years Old Single Malt will go to fund their studies.
Stephen Teeling, sales and marketing director for Teeling Whiskey, said: “Social sustainability has always been a priority for us at Teeling Whiskey and we are committed to playing our part in the Dublin community, supporting those across our industry. We can think of no better use of our new 40 Year Old than to help us support and inspire the new generation of Irish whiskey makers.”
The Teeling 40 Years Old Single Malt will be available initially in the Teeling Whiskey Distillery, retailing at €15,000 (£12,850) per 700ml, before being rolled out to a select few partners domestically and internationally. It will also be available to taste at the Teeling Bang Bang Bar for those who take part in a distillery tour.
