Terroirs Distillers has announced that it has acquired Irish distillery Connacht. Connacht, which was founded in 2013, produces single malt whisky at its distillery in County Mayo.
The move will see Connacht join Terroirs Distillers portfolio of brands. Terroirs manages the spirits brands and distilleries of the Family Group Picard Vins & Spiriteux, which includes whisky brands Tullibardine, Highland Queen, and Muirhead’s Blended Scotch.
Thomas Jensen, CEO of the distillery, commented: “We are thrilled to hand over the mantle of Connacht Distillery to Terroirs, a family-owned concern that shares our values and passion for high quality spirits. It has been a pleasure to bring back to the West of Ireland the production of exceptional Irish whiskey.”
Connacht Distillery released its inaugural single malt in 2021, which it says was the first whisky to be distilled in County Mayo in more than 150 years.
Terroirs Distillers says that the acquisition of Connacht Distillery is part of the company's focus on developing premium spirits brands.
Raoul Simon, managing director of Terroirs Distillers, added: “We are delighted by the acquisition of the Connacht Distillery, which complements perfectly our current branded portfolio, with a similar DNA and a great potential for growth. We look forward to increasing our knowledge of the category, in a country for which we have a special attachment.”
