Competitions website the Collectors Club is running a competition for whisky lovers to win a bottle of the Glenrothes 51 Years Old, priced at £1.51 per entry ticket.
At the time of writing, more than 25,000 tickets have been sold so far, with a series of instant wins still available to ticket buyers too. Upon purchasing an entry ticket, there’s an opportunity to win a bottle of 42 Years Old and Then Glenrothes 32 Years Old. The competition is open to UK entrants only and ticket numbers are randomly allocated. A draw will be made on 12 June at 8pm, regardless of whether all tickets sell out or not.
The lucky winner will be presented with the whisky at the brand new restaurant “Loma” in Cameron House on Loch Lomond by Michelin star chef Graeme Cheevers.
The unusual opportunity for an everyday whisky lover to potentially own such a rare, premium whisky should not be lost on anybody. For the longest time, the concerns over whether loyal whisky fans are being left behind in today's market because of soaring cost and the desire for a premium product have been at the forefront of many whisky conversations. A competition like this one opens the door of opportunity and provides an element of accessibility — at least for one lucky person.
The winning owner will have the opportunity to smash the outer casing of The Glenrothes 51 Years Old to reveal the whisky underneath — hammering home the message that whisky isn't just made to sit on a display shelf.
Jonny Fowle, global head of whisky at Sotheby’s, said on the The Glenrothes 51: “In the last few years, the whisky market has overwhelmed collectors with ultra-premium whiskies at extremely high price points, making collectors less likely to open their bottles. Collectors are looking to be incentivised to drink their whiskies, and herein lies a great new approach to this very problem. The 51 is for the true lovers of whisky; those who interact, drink, and enjoy Scotch.”
The Glenrothes 51 is an extremely limited release, with only 100 bottles available worldwide. It has been crafted from two rare casks and bottled at natural strength. Producers have described the liquid as uncommonly delicate and drawing inspiration from the estate’s wild orchids.
The Collectors Club Competitions have made a habit of making premium whiskies available via competition, including recently with The Dalmore 45 and The Macallan Horizon.
More information on the competition can be found here, as well as information on future competitions taking place. The team behind The Collectors Club Competitions have confirmed that the competition and all promotional material has been sanctioned by The Glenrothes and The Edrington Group.
