Bookings can now be made online for an array of visitor experiences at the distillery at Craggan, near Grantown-on-Spey. Moray-based Gordon & MacPhail, the company behind The Cairn, first revealed plans for the distillery in 2018 and secured planning permission in 2019.
Gordon & MacPhail's managing director Ewan Mackintosh said: "After many years of preparation, planning and construction we look forward to finally opening the doors to members of the public, and in particular the local community, who have been so supportive since the project was first announced.
"Having secured such a beautiful and awe-inspiring location overlooking the River Spey towards the Cairngorms, we wanted to create a building which complements the majesty of the environment. We are delighted with the result, and we look forward to sharing it with visitors from all over the world."
The Cairn will host three levels of visitor experience – The Explorer, The Adventurer, and The Voyager – which will all include a film about the distillery and a tour of the spirit production and maturation facilities. Food will also be available exclusively to tour participants at The Gathering restaurant.
Each experience will culminate in a tasting of the CRN57 range of blended whiskies. Available exclusively at the distillery and named for the latitude of its location, this range of sherry cask-matured unpeated whiskies has been designed to give a sense of the aromas and flavours that will be present in The Cairn Distillery's single malt whiskies, the first of which are expected to be released in the 2030s.
The distillery has been designed to harmonise with its natural environment, from its sedum roof which encourages insect life, to reforestation projects around its site to support native species.
Tickets for the Explorer and Adventurer experiences can be booked online at thecairndistillery.com, while those wishing to book the Voyager experience should email info@thecairndistillery.com or call 01479 816543.
