The Dalmore has unveiled the third instalment of its Cask Curation Series: The Red Wine Cask Edition.
The Cask Curation Series was created back in 2023 to celebrate The Dalmore’s cask maturation innovation, dating back to 1868.
For this chapter of the series, it looked to France, and its famed Châteauneuf-du-Pape region, which has proven popular among whisky makers at The Dalmore for the longest time. Located in the Rhone Wine region in southeast France, it is characterised as rich and plummy, with developing flavours of savoury and jammy notes. This is the character hoped to be achieved in this collection of whiskies.
The Dalmore chose to use the same 2023 Château Mont-Redon red wine casks to finish each of the three whiskies, all at different ages.
The 24 Years Old is bottled at 40.7% ABV, and producers describe the expression as having aromas of rich honey and sweet citrus, with notes of red berries, orange zest, and hints of dark toffee on the palate.
The 34 Years Old is bottled at 40.5%, with producers describing the liquid as having more subtle floral notes on the nose from the extra decade of maturation, with rich dark berries, stones fruits, and vanilla on the palate.
The oldest in the collection, the 43 Years Old, is bottled at 40.3% ABV and has aromas of dried fruit and orange marmalade, with notes of forest berries and dark chocolate on the palate.
Each is presented in a bespoke carry case, doubling as a display case, inspired by the spirit of travel and the long voyage the casks made from its native wineries. Hand-crafted by Italian luggage makers AB Florence, this year’s edition is available in lapis blue.
Richard Paterson OBE, The Dalmore's master distiller, commented: “We are truly passionate about the art of cask curation, and the flavours that can be created with The Dalmore’s unique spirit, when using casks from the finest wineries and bodegas. Red wine casks have played an integral role in shaping The Dalmore’s success, so it felt fitting to release some very rare expressions, as part of the Cask Curation Series.”
“The layers of flavour from the complex grape blends held inside these Châteauneuf-du-Pape casks from Château Mont-Redon have been instrumental in the development of these three unique Single Malts, which have such richness and complexity.”
This third chapter follows on from the series debut, The Sherry Edition, and last year’s The Port Edition.
The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Red Wine Edition is available now, globally, priced at £36,100 / $44,450. Only 150 sets have been created.
