The London Distillery Company has announced the Golden Union, a new series of English blended malt whiskies. The reveal follows the release of Renascence, which last month became the distillery's first whisky since its revival earlier this year.

The first whisky in the Golden Union collection will be A Field in England, which marries malt whiskies produced at Southwold's Adnams Distillery and the London Distillery Company. The whisky has been matured in various sizes of casks, and is bottled at 50% ABV.

The London Distillery Company says the bottling has notes of toffee, corn, and cereals, with citrus, tropical fruits, white pepper, and milk chocolate, with lemons and cask char at the finish.

As the Golden Union series progresses, the distillery plans to "showcase the diversity, depth, and creativity" of the English whisky scene through further small-batch collaborative bottlings, with each blended malt release using spirit sourced from different English distilleries.

Commenting on the release, managing director and whisky maker Matt McKay said the London Distillery Company was "proud" to put English malt whisky "centre stage" through the Golden Union series. He added: "For decades, drinkers have largely looked to the whisky powerhouses of Scotland, Ireland, and Japan for whiskies which express the elegance and exploration that it is possible to achieve through the art of blending. But recently, England has confidently joined that conversation.

"There are now over 50 licensed distilleries producing whisky across the country, each contributing their own textures, techniques, and philosophies to the production of malt whisky. What sets English whisky apart is precisely this freedom: the absence of rigid expectations."

The Golden Union: Release No.1 — A Field in England (50% ABV, RRP £49.95) will be available from 30 June via www.londondistillery.co.uk and selected UK retailers.
