Isle of Skye distillery Talisker has selected local artist Katie Tunn as its first ever artist in residence. To mark the occasion, Tunn has created an exclusive label design for Talisker Skye, one of the distillery’s core-range bottlings (and a former Whisky Magazine Editor’s Choice).
Tunn’s new label draws from her ‘Blue Planets’ series, which explores the colours of the sea. Having lived on the island for almost a decade, Tunn is inspired by the land and seascapes of the Isle of Skye.
She comments: “There is nowhere else quite like Skye… It’s a magical and unique island, inspiring creativity in both artists like myself and the makers of Talisker, which is why I’m delighted to be able to bring a part of my studio to the distillery as part of this residency.”
Tunn will also collaborate with Talisker to run ‘Piece of the Sea’, an exclusive whisky and painting experience held at the distillery on Wednesday 14 February. Guests will be guided by Tunn to paint a ‘Piece of the Sea’. A bespoke cocktail and two drams will complement the experience.
‘Piece of the Sea’ is the latest offering from Talisker Distillery’s visitor experience, which was expanded in 2022 after parent company Diageo’s investment in Scotch whisky tourism. Interactive experiences and distillery tours are also available for Talisker’s visitors.
The announcement follows Talisker’s recent partnership with five-star AA restaurant the Three Chimneys. The pop-up dining experience will be hosted at the distillery’s waterfront space at Loch Harport.
The Talisker Skye X Katie Tunn bottle is exclusively available from Talisker Distillery.
