Isle of Skye distillery Torabhaig has released Sound of Sleat, the fourth bottling in its Legacy Series.
The series, which began in 2021, charts Torabhaig's journey to its first 10-year-old whisky has so far included inaugural release Torabhaig 2017 (named for the year in which the distillery began production), Allt Glean, Allt Glean Batch Strength, and Cnoc Na Mòine.
The whisky is fully matured in American oak casks, with a mixture of new oak and ex-bourbon casks. Torabhaig says Sound of Sleat has citrus and spice notes, as well as maritime saltiness and rich smoke.
Neil Macleod Mathieson, Torabhaig whisky maker commented: “Our journey to a 10-year-old expression continues and for Sound of Sleat we’re returning to a classic ex-bourbon cask profile, enhanced by the addition of a crisp spice edge from the new American oak barrels, without losing the elegance and intricacy our fans have come to expect from a Torabhaig whisky.
“There is plenty of oak spice, citrus and maritime saltiness alongside a newfound waxiness we’ve discovered as our spirit continues to mature. This expression is a journey in itself as each wave of flavour washes in.”
The new release is named for the sea that runs next to the distillery and separated the Sleat Peninsula, where Torabhaig resides, from the rest of Skye. It is the first in the Legacy Series to receive the distillery's new label artwork, created by local artists. The Sound of Sleat's label has been painted by Skye-based artist Ellis O'Connor.
Torabhaig Sound of Sleat (46% ABV, RRP £57) is available now via specialist retailers.
