The Black Gold 30 Years Old is a single cask single malt from Bowmore Distillery, the oldest distillery on Islay and one of few Scottish distillers which still malts and kilns its own barley.
Made from 1989 Bowmore, Black Gold was aged in sherry hogsheads and bottled at a cask strength of 50% ABV. Wemyss Malts says it has been noted for its deep rosewood colour and a complex combination of flavours, including dried dark fruits, treacle toffee and earthy kiln smoke.
William Wemyss, director of Wemyss Malts, said: "Black Gold is a strikingly distinctive single cask, single malt whisky and a great release to start the 2020 celebration of the 15th anniversary of the founding of Wemyss Malts. I hope cask club members will enjoy, savour and share among friends the remaining 174 bottles – as I purchased the first one for myself and have already enjoyed a few drams of it."
Black Gold follows the first and second releases of single cask Islay malts, Smoky Nectar and Antique Armchair, offered exclusively to the Wemyss Malts Cask Club members.
Black Gold will be released to cask club members at www.wemyssmalts.com/cask-club at 12pm on Thursday, January 23 and is priced at £599 for the 700ml bottle and gift box. Membership to the Edinburgh-based club is free and can be signed up to from the same website.
