Two whisky-mad brothers are embarking on a series of wild water swims in the UK this summer – while carrying their favourite drams – to raise money for charity.

Alex and Nick Ravenhall, known as the Whisky Smugglers, will be taking a dip in some of the UK's most treacherous waters with bottles of whisky strapped to their bodies to raise money for Sea Shepherd, a charity in their native New Zealand.

On 6 August the brothers will swim across The Corryvreckan while transporting bottles of Scotch whisky that is destined to be blended and sold as a limited-edition release. The Māori duo have teamed up with independent bottler Signatory to create the bespoke cask whiskies; they will be sold later this year in aid of to Sea Shepherd, which works to protect and conserve New Zealand's waters.

Alex and Nick founded their own charity, Whisky and Waves, which aims to raise awareness to the vulnerability of the earth's waterways. The brothers are now based in the UK and both work in whisky: Nick is managing director of Edinburgh's Holyrood Distillery and Alex is head of events for Atom Brands, the company behind independent bottling brand That Boutique-y Whisky Company.
