Edinburgh airport finally has the whisky offer it deserves. Earlier this year BAA opened a World of Whiskies shop in shop at the airport’s main World Duty Free store, based on the successful retail format at London Heathrow and Gatwick.As a result the dedicated whisky area has grown in size from 170sq ft to 240sq ft. It now stocks more than 200 whiskies, including an impressive range of travel-retail exclusive malts, including Glenlivet Nadurra (£34.99), The Macallan Elegancia (£26.99), Glenmorangie Cellar 13 (£29.99), and Bowmore Enigma (£24.99).British, Dutch and American travellers are the best purchasers of whisky at the store and the top sellers’ list currently puts Glenmorangie Cellar 13 in pole position, followed by Ardbeg 10 Year Old, and The Macallan Elegancia.World of Whiskies puts a big emphasis on multi purchase promotions – current deals to watch out for include ‘Buy Two, Save £10’ on 70 of the store’s best-selling malts; Buy Two, Save £10 on Distillers Edition Lagavulin (£39.99), Glenkinchie (£33.99), Cragganmore (£33.99), and Talisker (35.99).Two or three new malts are added each month and there are plans to introduce rarer, collectors’ items next year.The most expensive whisky currently on sale is Glenfiddich 1937 priced at £10,000.Passengers travelling within the European Union can use the free shopping collection service.Best Buy.The Macallan 40 Year Old.
The Edrington Group has released a treat for travelling whisky connoisseurs with its latest super-premium release, a duty-free exclusive The Macallan 40 Year Old.As you might expect quantities of this rare 43% ABV malt are limited: only 450 bottles have been released. The whisky has a dark mahogany colour and a rich nose releasing sherry, orange, clove and nutmeg notes.The whisky is presented in a leather display case and is priced at £1,350 ( 1,999). The product is available at DFS Group’s airport stores throughout Asia/Pacific and is being rolled out to other major international airports worldwide.Recommended.Tobermory 1972 Vintage.
Earlier this year Trinidad-based CL World Brands, which owns Islay malt Bunnahabhain and Tobermory, the only distillery on the windswept island of Mull, launched a new duty-free division to promote its spirits portfolio to travellers.The new duty-free team has hit the ground running and released a new duty-free exclusive.Tobermory 1972 is not chill-filtered and has been bottled at its natural cask strength of 49.7% ABV.Matured in oloroso sherry casks and filled into traditional green flint bottles, this whisky is hand numbered and comes in a bespoke black box with tasting notes written by Michael Jackson.Only 897 bottles, priced at £150, have been made available to the duty-free channel.
