Nose: Blooming gorse, candied lime, and grassy notes. Florals of meadowsweet and jasmine. Freshly picked thyme. Peach candies, almond biscotti, brewing coffee, treacle tart, and new leather.
Palate: Full. Intense, concentrated orchard and citrus fruits – like a tart apple, orange and lime cordial. Grapefruit. Subtle yeasty character, like fino sherry, with a cashew nut note that builds. Jackfruit, tart physalis, and white tea with soy milk.
Finish: Medium-long. Lemon-lime candy.
Comment: All the best bits of older whisky with the vigour of a dram in its teens.
Score: 8.8
Taster
Nose: Very floral, like dried flowers, with candied citrus peels. Caramel and a hint of struck match. Fresh rosemary, celery tops, and parsley. Baked stone fruit, damson jam, and powdered ginger.
Palate: Full. Ginger cake, caramel, sherried raisins, and hints of new leather. Duck with plum sauce. Blackcurrant jam, black peppercorn, and orange-flavoured milk chocolate. Slight smokiness remains.
Finish: Long, on floral black tea and buttered fruit loaf. Final notes of sweet oak.
Comment: A layered Speyside malt that’s ageing deliciously.
Score: 8.6
