Nose: Wonderfully autumnal with some black tea tannins, bergamot flowers, grilled peaches and smacked mint leaves. Treacle toffee and coffee grinds, then some dark fruits come though, with raisins, plums in honey and brambles.
Palate: Punchy at first with plenty of creamy oak and sharp green apples. Moves towards blood oranges and slowly the spices build.
Finish: Sweet and long with those spices rising then dying. A little tannic oak note.
Comment: Solid showing and the oak is well integrated.
Score: 8.6
Taster
Nose: An intriguing mix of stewed chamomile tea, last night’s olbas oil tissue, Edinburgh rock and Tunnock’s teacakes. After notes of lime and mint cheesecake and old worn leather boots.
Palate: Sugar coated almonds, sour plums and raspberry jelly babies with hints of hot lemon meringue pie and plasticine. Freshly baked croissants dipped in balsamic and olive oil.
Finish: Subtle hints of salted butter within an otherwise balanced.
Comment: Ever accidentally eaten playdoh? Don’t pretend you didn’t strangely enjoy it a little.
Score: 8.4
