Nose

Initially there’s a lovely sooty note to this — it’s warming straight away. There’s orange peel, ginger, golden syrup, and a bit of Crunchie bar, alongside that great ashy smoke.

Palate

Fantastic balance here between the sweet and smoke: glazed ham and espresso, alongside maple syrup, Caramac bars, and chillies. Wonderful weight, almost chewy.

Finish

Long and persistent — really sticks to the palate.

Comment

Very complex whisky. Great savoury element without it dominating.
