Nose: Unbaked sourdough – lots of flour and yeast. Pork cutlet in panko breadcrumbs, Milkybar white chocolate, cashew cream, and crème brûlée. Under all this, some ephemeral green and herbal notes.
Palate: Medium-full. Turmeric, baked apples and pears, flapjack with raisins, dried apricots, and honey on buttered sourdough toast with burnt crust. Toffee pennies and fig jam. A little curry spice.
Finish: Medium, on figs and roasted pistachio.
Comment: Complex, very well balanced, and just a little unexpected.
Score: 8.3
Taster
Nose: Bacon Fries, smoky bacon crisps, and crispy bacon Wheat Crunchies. Then oatmeal, clove, caramel, fresh pear and raspberry, and hints of cumin and orange citrus.
Palate: Medium. Smoky bacon turns to sweeter, almost fruity peat. Milk chocolate drops, caramel sauce, seedless strawberry jam, bourbon biscuit, vanilla rice pudding, and a hint of malted milk.
Finish: Long. The smoke subsides to leave fig, nutty sherry, and a little vanilla.
Comment: One to share around at a party with the savoury snacks.
Score: 8.0
