Tasting Notes

Taster

Nose: Intense, aromatic, rich yet dry: resin, oil, dried fruit, plum pudding, coffee. In time, mushroom, damp earth.

Palate: Sherried/walnut flavours, resinous. Chocolate. The wood hits half way through but there's just enough sweet weight to carry.

Finish: Rich.

Comment: An intriguing mix of sweet wood, crisp malt and toasted nuttiness.

Score: 7.8

Taster

Nose: Appetising citrus (tangerine?).

Palate: Malty, textured. Crunchie bars. Cinder toffee. Softening to marshmallow. Cream. Strawberries.

Finish: A sprinkling of lemon juice.

Comment: The orangey colour suggests some sherry. Nikka's Sendai distillery has in this instance produced a nuttier, maltier style of whisky than Yoichi.
