Nose: Olive oil, latex, pencil shavings, and a touch of cucumber and watermelon water. Elderflower cordial and a little lime zest. Wafts of wood smoke.
Palate: Light-medium bodied and spirit forward. Pear drop and a touch of rosemary. Then smoked vanilla sponge cake and some pickled ginger.
Finish: Medium-long. The sweet smoke fades out to fresh red apple.
Comment: Pleasing spirit-forward peaty flavours and a big presence on the palate.
Score: 7.8
Taster
Nose: Buttered popcorn and wisps of wood smoke. Milk chocolate and raisin oatmeal cookie. Baked pear, cinnamon, and star anise. Really fresh, pulpy apple juice. Honey-nut cornflake cereal with peanut.
Palate: Medium-full bodied. Gentle fruit salad notes of pear, apple, grape, and orange. A charred vegetal note and a touch of charcoal. Oily focaccia. Caramel stroopwafel and a little rooibos tea.
Finish: Long. Rooibos tea, honeyed peanut, and peat notes that get more medicinal.
Comment: An unusual but nonetheless charming Speysider.
Score: 8.0
