Republic of Ireland
Standard (Distillery or blended)
Nose: A rich fruity nose of maple syrup, toffee, caramel.
Palate: Cola cubes, cherry chews and soft centred toffees. White bread.
Finish: Delivered better at the beginning but faded fats with water.
Comment: I struggled to find a distinctive character, perhaps too balanced for my taste.
Nose: Malty. Sweet. Butterscotch. Peaches poached in a vanilla syrup. Pudding-like. Crème brûlée. Oak shines through.
Palate: Sweet but with a crisp feel. The same sweet notes as on the nose. Crème caramel. Chocolate and coffee cake (Opéra in French!).
Finish: Dry, medium long with a spicy kick (long peppercorn to it).
Comment: A well structured dram. The sweetness is balanced by oak and spices.
