Nose: Shy on the nose. Apple and pear crumble with toasted porridge oats and chopped hazelnuts. A lick of minerality, reminiscent of sea shells taken straight from the water, plus sawdust blowing around the glass.
Palate: Soft and demure, a bowl of peaches and cream with posh granola full of lovely nuts. The salty air whips past.
Finish: Vanilla-sprinkled seashells, dehydrated lemon wheels and varnished pine.
Comment: Lots of interest there in an understated organoleptic package.
Score: 7.4
Taster
Nose: Full of life. Bold citrus notes, lime juice, with melons and traces of pineapple. Chaff-like quality showing, then Parma Violets, honeysuckle and old roses.
Palate: Zesty fruits aren’t as apparent. Malted barely and wholemeal, Malted Milk biscuits. Weetabix. Salty, traces of toffee. Medium-weight texture and simple.
Finish: Brine, cereal, grapefruit, gooseberries and lime juice, with a tart acidity.
Comment: Underlying spirit is very moreish, but currently feels ‘on its way’.
Score: 7.4
