Nose: Apricot jam on wholemeal toast, toffee sauce, and a whiff of savoury soup stock. Milk chocolate-coated raisins, some orange juice, and paprika, too.
Palate: Medium. Loads more milk-chocolate coated fruit – raisins, red apple slices, and sweet blackberries. Tinned peach and some subtle sesame oil.
Finish: Long. The peach notes fade and sweet graham cracker remains.
Comment: Proof that England can do Speyside-style whiskies as well as the Scots.
Score: 8.0
Taster
Nose: Orchard fruit notes of pear, plum, and apricot, with caramel and a little apple blossom. Roasted hazelnut and a hint of wood polish. Clove, a little smoky chipotle, and barbecued corn.
Palate: Medium. Raspberry liqueur, raspberry leaf tea, yrupy baked apricot and plum, and chocolate-coated caramel and biscuit bar. Mentholic clove. Caramel popcorn and woody, almost grassy spice.
Finish: Long. Light tannins, and diluted raspberry, strawberry and apple cordial.
Comment: You could make a lovely riff on an Old Fashioned with this.
Score: 8.0
